As mothers, we often carry the unseen burdens of family life. Part of our vocation is to prepare for what others may not even think about. Being prepared for emergencies like a power outage isn’t about fear, it is about stewardship: caring for the lives entrusted to us, like the wise virgins in Matthew 25 who kept oil in their lamps, ready for when the bridegroom arrived.
In moments of crisis- be it storms, grid failures, or even just a blackout- our peace and readiness can be a powerful witness to our children. When the lights go out, we want their eyes to turn to us with trust, not panic. Just as the Blessed Virgin Mary pondered all things in her heart and quietly made a home ready for the Savior, we too can quietly prepare, not only spiritually but practically.
